Whenever you see a brand, a label, a product, what do you immediately think of? Lets try CK. If you’re in your late 20’s you’ll probably think of Mark Wahlberg, if you are in your teens you’ll think of Bieber! This association between a brand and a face is why companies use models from modelling agencies. We take a piece of clothing, some simple cloth, and give it the attributes of the model. We’re told that we can look like them simply by buying the product and this is the beauty of advertising.

Promotional work takes loads of different forms. Perhaps you’ll be hosting guests at a function, passing out perfume samples, or in costume at a sports car event. It’s not important where the job is, the role is the same. Your job is to make the products stand out and be larger than life, engaging with the audience and promoting your employer. Compared to the illusive big modeling jobs, in Talent Management's experience it’s a lot easier to get promo work. The majority of it is directed towards females and tends to pay quite well, £20+ an hour or so meaning you walk away after a day with over £100. Some agencies will pay in cash on the day, others will pay at the end of the accounting period, end of the month.

Promo models need to have strong personalities to do well. Bubbly, vivacious types are far better at these kinds of modeling jobs. You need to be able to leave your worries at the door and turn on the sunshine! Many people struggle to do this and will be seen as moody. When deciding which route into modelling you want to go for, take into account your character. If you are more of a wall flower than a party animal, you may be best talking to a photography studio and perhaps working there part time to get some good experience behind the camera. There’s nothing wrong with being a little more sensitive than the average and this sensitivity will often be desired by advertisers. It is mainly just a question of how to make them notice you and you can do this by simply getting in touch with them. Ask if you can visit, find out who you would like to introduce yourself to, and make sure you have enough credentials to make them take you seriously. Being your own boss can be hard when no one will tell you what to do or where to go, but as long as you don’t sign anything without reading it very carefully, you can’t go far wrong! Weddings are strange in many ways. We spend years of our lives looking forward to one special day, playing dress up as a child and picturing a fairy tale, but when it comes, its over in an instant! In our lives on average we will attend 30 weddings. The most important one though will obviously be yours and, the most important part will be the dress. It has to be right, and fit you well. You should consider the shape of your body when choosing and also the practicality of the dress - you will be wearing it for over 12 hours!

You need a good budget for the wedding itself and also your dress. Sticking to the budget can be hard, especially when you really want it to be perfect. Dresses can always be refitted, but it's best to be realistic and buy what you know will fit you. Some times women take on drastic diets to drop a size or two, and end up squeezing in on the day. There are some great wedding fairs from time to time with a huge variety of items and services displayed. Each little idea can end up costing a fortune though, so be sensible. The cake also contributes to the feel of your wedding. It must show a story of love, as well as capture the moment. The beauty of your cake does not lie in its size (or in the eating) but in its general looks. It has to be attractive, in terms of colour and design. Did Talent Management handle your response effectively?

Yes, very friendly, professional, and quick in responding.

Was the model represented by Talent Management professional?

Chloe was very professional. She took instructions well. She did seem a little nervous at first but I think that was down to a lack of experience.

Do you have any feedback regarding how we can improve our service?

At the time of enquiry I sent a list of requirements. I would have liked to have received a list of models back from the agency filtering out anyone who didn't meet our requirements, but I had to go through the list looking at lots of girls who were too tall or too skinny. It could have been more efficient. I had also specifically asked for a list of models in the South Wales area. But the model we had came from near Liverpool.

Many of us go through our lives without realising what we really want. We often end up doing what our parents told us to do even if we don’t mean to and we often don’t question if these decisions are right for us. That’s why many of us are so unhappy with our lives, and especially with our jobs even if we wanted them so badly. Finding out what you want to do in life is difficult and you can’t do it quickly, but it is possible. The key is really to try as much as possible over the space of a few years, then have a good idea of what to do for the next 40 years. Take modelling for example, the majority of models that Talent Management find work for work part time and models can fit it around any kind of lifestyle or other day job. It may take a lot of time and effort to find the thing that’s right for you but stick with it! Take notice of what things bother you and figure out what you definitely do not want to do with your life. Make a list of things you hate and this list will definitely help you find out what you need to do to be happier. If you don’t like your current job, or if your best friend is not actually as you thought, whatever it is, identify it, figure out why it happened, and make a conscious effort not to let it happen again.

Do you know what things make you feel genuinely happy? Take notes, on paper, every time you feel like jumping for joy or smile uncontrollably. Write down what happened, and how you felt in one sentence. When you have a list of what those things are, you will know what you have to do in life to make them happen more often. If you get unhappy or anxious just thinking about your job, it’s time to reconsider your career goals. Are calorie labels on wine bottles a bad thing?

Talent Management are the parent company of Models Direct. They are a government regulated employment agency and have been operating in the modelling and talent industry for over 20 years. 

Health experts say that beer, wine and all types of booze are causing an obesity epidemic in the UK but why do they think that we need reminding that alcohol perhaps isn’t the best component of our diets?

Just like chocolate; wine is a good friend of many women but few know how many calories are in each glass, or bottle. If we know that both things aren’t good for us, why should only one of them have a label telling us its properties? Well, there are some who would say that one doesn’t need to know and that the cost of testing and labelling will inevitably be passed onto the consumer. Take a second to guess how many calories there are in a glass of wine.

Talent Management Blog: Atkins Diet: Good or Bad?

Is the Atkins Diet Healthy?

Talent Management are Europe's leading agency for talent and modelling and are regulated by the UK government. Modelling diets are always in magazines, but we thought we should stop and have a look at some of them to see what works and what hurts! Today we'll look at the Atkins Diet and find out what it actually involves.

 

The diet starts with two weeks of a low carb diet which aids rapid weight loss. In these two weeks you are only allowed protein, fat and limited carbs. Atkins allows unlimited fats, which is unusual for a diet, but obviously too much will negate any positive effects on your weight. Phase one is designed to help you lose up to 8kg in two weeks, reducing to 1-2kg during phase two.

Bad breath, dry mouth, tiredness, dizziness, insomnia, nausea, constipation. Quite a list of negatives but with any dietary change your body will recoil to some degree.

Talent Management: Reducing Stretch-Marks

Talent Management: Soften those Stretch-Marks

Nobody enjoys it when they notice some new stretch-marks in the mirror and it does happen to every one of us. Luckily, Models Direct, Talent Management's modelling platform, have some easy ways to reduce their appearance over time and return to your regular skin.

A study that compared herbal moisturizers discovered that people who used them daily displayed a significant improvement in the appearance of their skin and its elasticity. The logic is that your skin won’t create stretch-marks if it is very well hydrated. 

If you wish to return to modelling after a pregnancy for example, this may be worth a try. You can use lotion on new stretch-marks or on the areas where you might foresee getting them. Lotion on old marks is not as effective as on new ones but will still improve their appearance. 

If you have concerns about the chemicals used in over the counter lotions then you can easily make your own. Take wheat germ oil, olive oil and aloe vera in equal parts and mix them together for a chemical-free lotion.
